Utilities: Water

If you are to dig a well, You will have to get that done before you get you septic system installed. But to get a septic system installed you need a percolation test that passes. A percolation test is good fr 2 years and costs over a $1000.00 to get done. So….

When you get your percolation test results, you have to make good use of it and be wise so you don’t end up spending a fortune.

If you need a septic system get it. If you need a well get it.

The well pump:

If you can, get the above ground pump. The submersible pump will be more expensive as it is considered more sophisticated. The above ground pump will be more accessible and probably 1/10th the price of the submersible option. Likely anything under 100 feet deep should be able to work with an over ground pump.

Certainly listen to the recommendation of the well drillers, but don’t just do what they say. It’s important to know what they are thinking. Ask questions. If they get annoyed that is their problem. They will not be annoyed when they hand you the bill. Also once they are done installing everything, they will go make more money and it becomes your problem to maintain and figure out.
